DIY music box design lets users compose their own nostalgic melodies in three simple steps

Make Your Own Music Box is a music box design by Kikkerland Design that allows users to compose their own melodies to play the music box.

There’s nothing as nostalgic as a music box. A look at Grandma’s old jewelry box starring “Over The Rainbow” or even the large coin-operated music boxes at train stations and bars can take us back to our time. Music boxes have been around for centuries, but they have managed to maintain their charm. Since 1922, Kikkerland Design has been producing toys and souvenirs to captivate the masses and return them to simpler times. Today, users have released a music box that allows them to compose their melody.

Kikkerland Design’s Make Your Own Music Box Kit comes with everything you need to compose and re-listen to your melody. Consisting of lined music strips, each user can make their own music by punching the music paper to catch and play music boxes with melodies and harmonies. Describing the process, the Kikkerland design states: “The easy-to-use music box drill allows you to create your own melodies lined up in strips of paper and play on the provided mechanism.”

To help get the ball rolling, Kikkerland Design offers scores for “Happy Birthday” so users can see what tunes and sounds they have in the score and music box. In addition, the Make Your Own Music Box works with a hole in the music box, a score band, and a music box mechanism to play newly composed music. Users simply punch a score with a melody and insert the band into the music box and listen to it in real time.
